Peter Harteg, the developer of CMSimple, sold all rights (i.e. code, name and websites) in November 2012 to Gert Ebersbach. Gert put the code in his web archive with the notice “Development abandoned”.
Thus there are only different forks of the original CMSimple in active development now.
CMSimple Classic is maintained by Preben Björn Biermann Madsen. This fork is based on CMSimple 3.4.
CMSimple_XH is maintained by the community at cmsimpleforum.com. This fork is based on CMSImple 3.3.
CMSimple 4.0 or higher (not to be confused with the original CMSimple) is maintained by Gert Ebersbach. This fork is based on CMSimple_XH 1.5.3.

At present there are not yet many differences between CMSimple 4+ and CMSimple_XH. The development however seems to go in different directions so that in future differences may be more pronounced.
